I found myself in beautiful sunny, Southern California with the sun shining bright at Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino, CA getting ready for Rounds 5 and 6 of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series. Friday was a day held for practice and qualifying and seemed to go went great for all of the UTVs. The the track was tight and fast. With some minor tuning and adjusting, the racers were ready for Saturday, the first day of racing.

I ran into a few drivers just before they headed off for the main race and got an insight as to how they were feeling. Chad George in the #1 Monster, Funco, C & G Performance Kawasaki said he was sporting the new look  as top qualifier. His plan was to pace RJ Anderson in the #637 Walker Evans, Goodyear Polaris and increase his points lead.

Tyler Winbury in the #694 Wagon Burners, UTV Underground Magnum Off Road, Kawasaki and Robert Vanbeekum in the # 664 Muzzy’s Monster Kawasaki round out the Unlimited UTV class.

Dan Kelly in the #824 Off Road Magnet, Muzzys Kawasaki practiced with a brand new machine. The vehicle is rocking a wide stance and was ready to take on the fast track. After changing a shock tower and adjusting the shocks, they managed to accomplish the fastest lap on Friday.

After a drop down drag out race, Code Radhers in the #816 Superchips, Racetech Yamaha pulled out a win! Corry Weller in the #810 Weller Racing, Tilted Kilt, Lucas Oil Yamaha started 3rd in qualifying and lead the pack until the mandatory yellow and finished in 2nd. Bryan Osborn in the #854 Black Rhino, Lucas Oil Yamaha wraped up Saturdays main with a 3rd place finish.

On an overcast Sunday morning the action packed racing continued. Practice put Code Rahders, Doug Mittag in the #848 COD, K & N, Long Travel Industries, Yamaha and Dan Kelly in the top 3. Chad George, Tyler Winbury and RJ Anderson rounded out the practices Unlimited Class top 3.

Just after lunch the UTV Main began for Sundays Round 6 Lucas Oil Racing Series sponsored by Geico. Dan Kelly had a rough day with a mechanical problem that took him out first in lap 4. Tyler Winbury had a frustrating dive into the infield with an axle issue that puts him out. Dempsey got a little off course and slightly off the side and it took him to last place. Corry Weller was running great, passing Chad George for third until her front left tire came off. She had nowhere to go and she and Chad George were taken out of the race leaving Corry Weller 5th in her class. Doug Mittags machine was puffing white smoke for a few laps and after the caution for Corry’s lost tire, his motor just couldn’t continue. After a well fought battle Code Rahders, Bryan Osborn and John Dempsey take the podium for the SR1 class. RJ Anderson, Robert Vanbeekum and Chad George land the top 3 podium spots for the Unlimited Class.
